Phylagen is seeking a Head of Product to own the product vision. As Head of Product, your primary function will be to ensure the company is building, shipping and supporting the right product. A natural collaborator with technical, business and marketing leads, you will balance and synthesize disparate inputs to launch products having the potential to create new business categories. Reporting to the CEO, you will be a member of Phylagen’s leadership team and contribute to company strategy, execution and culture. As a member of the executive team, you will exercise leadership when needed, influence when appropriate and contribute to hands-on work when warranted.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop product vision that is responsive to customer needs, technical considerations and business strategy.

  • Lead, manage and mentor contributors with a variety of skill sets and experiences.

  • Drive innovative ideas, solutions and products through leadership and decisive action.

  • Own product planning and assignment of tasks and deliverables.

  • Own product lifecycle management from concept to launch of the product(s) across all products/product lines.

  • Lead product strategy development, including partnering closely with technical, commercial, and marketing leads to refine and implement product strategy.

  • Assess product development sprints and enhancement opportunities.

  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and metrics.


  • Must be a highly passionate individual that notices and cares about the customer; has the ability to filter customer requests and translate them into customer needs, and product requirements.
  • Excellent teamwork skills with proven ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines to ensure success. Ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority. This includes the ability to work well in bridging communication between engineering, design, marketing, sales, and customers.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a mix of roles within product development and marketing.

  • BS degree (advanced degree preferred) in Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or Business.

  • Experience defining, developing, launching new products derived from an emerging technology, preferably in start-up environments.

  • A track record of successful product portfolio design.

  • Demonstrated ability to build teams and mentor junior staff.

  • Direct technical experience in product development involving molecular biology, chemistry, engineering, or software is a plus.

  • Experience with developing and executing product marketing plans is a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior management.

  • Ability to set and meet goals based on department and corporate objectives.
